Sixth Grader Walks 11 Miles to Raise $1,000 for Fallen Firefighters

Cliff Moore, a 6th grader at Wake Preparatory Academy, turned his school service project into a remarkable fundraiser for the North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Inspired by NCFFF’s mission, Cliff organized a solo walk-a-thon on the Neuse River Greenway with the support of his family and friends.

His original goal was to walk 4–5 miles and raise $300, but with determination and encouragement, he pushed through 11 miles and raised an incredible $1,000. Cliff’s generosity and hard work reflect the spirit of resilience and service honored by NCFFF, and we are deeply grateful for his dedication to supporting the families of fallen firefighters.

Hello,
My name is Cliff Moore. Last school year, I was a 6th grader at Wake Preparatory Academy. At my school, we are asked to plan and implement a service project of our choice.. I chose to do a fundraiser for NCFFF. I had previously seen a booth at the state fair for NCFFF when I was younger and donated $1 and got a bracelet. I loved the mission of your organization and so I wanted to focus my service project on helping the fallen firefighters in NC. I planned a solo walk-a-thon and wrote a pitch to call friends and family and asked them to donate to my cause for every mile that I walked. My initial goal was to walk 4-5 miles. Little did I know, I pushed through walking for 11 miles on the Neuse River greenway one afternoon after school. I maintained my pace at about 18 mins/mile and my Dad walked with me. Friends and family came and cheered me on along my path. I learned that I could do hard things and I felt so happy and grateful for the opportunity to raise this money for families and firefighters that have fought through doing hard things too.

I had a goal to raise $300 and I couldn't believe how I blew that out of the water, ending with $1000 to donate. My family and friends were so generous when they heard about NCFFF and were excited to help me surpass my goal.

It took a little while to compile all the donations from so many different people and then I got distracted by my summer activities, but here is my donation!! I hope it is used to do a lot of good for the families of fallen firefighters in need.

Thank you,
Cliff Moore

Here's some photos from my walk-a-thon and my "Big Check" that I made for my project and took to show the firefighters at the memorial in downtown Raleigh.

“Cliff’s story reminds us that one person’s dedication can make a big difference—join him in honoring and supporting the families of North Carolina’s fallen firefighters by making a gift or starting your own fundraiser today.”
