There has been no greater joy in my life than the joy of being your Mother. I loved you from the moment I knew you were being formed. God had such great plans for you and you certainly lived up to them. The spark in your eye and the love in your heart has touched so many lives. It is now with endless respect and honor that we continue to celebrate the life that you lived. Son, I miss you terribly and think about you EVERY day. Your brothers and sister are following in your footsteps and continue to serve the Bethlehem community. They are at the FD more than they are at home. You would be SO proud!

Caleb, you were the best brother ever. I miss you dearly and some days are hard to get through when i know you aren’t here. Everyone misses you and loves you very much. You left an impact on a few thousand lives. Your finger prints have never faded from the lives you touched. I’m grateful beyond words for who you were to me and what you’d done. I love you, Claeb. Max it’s been 28 years since your passing and we still today remember and honor your service to our department. We thank you for your dedication and service to the Julian Volunteer Fire Department. you along with many others are the foundation of the Department and y’all made JVFD what it is today. Again you are truly missed and considered a Hero in our eyes.

Joe Whitlow was the first volunteer firefighter killed in the line of duty in the Winston Fire Department. He was killed when a brick wall fell on him at the Old Farmer’s Warehouse on 2/27/1911.

yes, that was a dark time in all our lives…really changed us all…I still remember his smile and laugh…we all have memories of him…I remember your sisters and you all looking so lost…that will be a part that i will never forget… how u hung on to martha, gene, and me for support. we love you all and you guys mean a lot to us..

I remember this night like it was yesterday, Ferrell D Hood was my father. I struggle daily with this still. I was 10 years old when he was killed and I am now 35. I would give anything to have him back. He is missed and always will be. He was and is my hero.
